This design incorporates the idea of affordable stealth as the small size of jf17 does not allow the placement of an internal weapons bay. Though the decrease in range can be accounted for by IFR . So this prototype of jf17 has to carry weapons on the external pylons. A Jf17 carrying A2A payload will have relatively small profile as compared to A2G payload, and will pose a major threat to enemy forces.

JF-17 c Block II
Jf-17, though considered to be a small and agile fighter, has to be the work horse of PAF and that means adaptability to all kinds of Missions and scenarios . Short Range of Jf-17 has been taken care of by adding CFTs, which increase the fuel carrying capacity by 35 %.
Much work has been done on integrating advanced weapons on this new block of JF-17. As is shown here, a fully armed JF-17c with 2x 2000 lb LGBs, 2x Meteor AAMs , 2x Pl-9 AAMs and targeting pod.
Upgradation of avionics sure was of utmost importance. Visible exteriorly are a new IFF, and IRST and a new AESA Radar, indicated by that breech just behind the Radome .

JF-17 carries out new Meteor missile tests in Kamra
BBN- Defence Reporter- : Jf-17 Thunder is the first fighter aircraft in Asia, which has air-launched the Meteor missile. The first Air Launched Demonstration firing took place in 2010 and was followed by several important flight test campaigns during the year.
Meteor is a European collaborative programme between the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Germany. The missile is planned to be the primary BVR air-to-air missile for all the modern European fighter aircraft; Gripen, Eurofighter and Rafale.
[Editor's Note: As the serial no. of This JF-17 shows that the pic is from 2010, but the no. 166 seems to be a typo. ? . As it was stated that the first batch of Jf-17 will comprise of 50 aircraft, the serial no. should have been 266, showing that it is the 66th aircraft from 2nd batch. Dont know why PAC would make such obvious errors. o.O ]

JF-17 Thunder is an advanced, light-weight, all weather, day / night multi-role fighter aircraft; developed as a joint venture between Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Kamra and Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation (CAC) of China. It possesses excellent air-to-air and air-to-surface combat capabilities. The state-of-the art avionics, optimally integrated sub-systems, computerized flight controls and capability to employ latest weapons provides decisive advantage to JF-17 over adversaries of same class. This, all weather, multi-role light combat fighter has remarkable high combat manoeuvre ability at medium and low altitude. PAF No. 6 Squadron "Striking Hearts" JFT for Ladies
| Striking Hearts, Twin seat JF-17 b. |
[BBN: News Desk : Defence Reporter] Pakistan Airforce No. 6 Squadron "Striking Hearts" which exclusively consists of Female Pilots of PAF , took its delivery of first JF-17 Thunder aircraft, painted in special markings . The original proposal from the Squadron Leader Miss Shagufta Karrar, on behalf of the whole squadron, was to paint the aircrafts in Pink Livery, but that request was denied by the PAF High command as it would seriously compromise camoflague during war time operations. As a sort of compensation for making it bit girly, Floral Patterns in matching color were painted on the aircraft, and squadron insignia "Striking Hearts" painted on the tail.
Some sectors of media and some NGO's funded by foreign funds have suspected that the decline to paint the aicrafts pink was less of an operational requirement and more of an arrogant stunt to undermine female empowerment in Pakistan Airforce by the still Male dominant Air force High command. "If female Fighter pilots cant even choose what color airplanes they want to fly, then so much for freedom and liberty for the average females of this country." , said Begum Saba Chalghozay . PAF female pilots werent available for comments.

Jf-17 SFW
Swept Forward Wing
Forward-swept wings offer low drag and improved low-speed handling characteristics, but they are extremely difficult to manufacture using conventional techniques. The use of advanced composite materials makes the wing rigid enough to withstand the forces introduced by aerodynamic stress, while simultaneously avoiding a weight penalty.

' Jf-17 on Chichawatni Bypass ' gets featured .
Well, well, this one pic seems to making quite a buzz at social networking sites.
It came to my notice quite unexpectedly. Actually, i took this pic almost a year before and the guy on the bike in front is my younger brother. Someone shared it on Media Mug International s Facebook page, Here , with 674 likes, 357 shares and 174 comments. Though most of them are just plain stupid.
Anyways, then it got shared on various other pages and finally made it to an Islamabad University Alumni page, of which my bro is a member. His friends recognized him and called to ask if he was really him. haahahaha. Now i guess i understand how ppl feel when they become a celeb overnight. well, almost..... u dont have to eat a bucket load of salt to know what it tastes like or do you ?
Now someone's shared it on Reddit too , Here

Jf-17 Thunder in Desert Camoflague
ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Air Force spokesperson said on Monday that JF – 17 Thunder Jet fighters have been inducted into the PAF’s 26th Squadron.
Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder Jet fighters have been designed in collaboration with China but have been manufactured indigenously.
The spokesperson said that the induction took place during a special ceremony at a PAF operational base.
Pakistan Air Force chief Rao Qamar Suleman made an address during the ceremony and thanked the Chinese government for its cooperation in preparing the jets.
He said Pakistan is in a state of war and the air force will do everything in its power to defend the nation.
He added the 26th Squadron previously had A5 Jet fighters only and that the JF-17 Jets will also be soon inducted in the 16th Squadron as well.
My earlier posts Featuring JF17 in Desert camo can be seen HERE and HERE.

Jf-!7 Block 2 Upgrade with French MICA
In the long wish list of JF17 upgrades, there are many things i want to see. One of them is adding the number of Pylons for Jf17 Thunder to carry additional missiles .
In its present standard CAP configuration, JFT will carry 2x PL-9 AAM, 2x SD-10 BVRAAM, and 3x drop tanks and this seems a little less compared to modern generation aircraft . Although Dual Launcher for SD-10 will address this problem. I think going for an additional Pylon like the French have gone for on Dassault Rafale and earlier on Mirage 2000, is the most logical next step to add more punch to JFT. As having this additional pylon enhances Multirole capabilities of JF17. Now JFT can carry 4x AAM, 3x Drop tanks, 2x AGMs.
Below is the rendition :
and some words about MICA (missile) :
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The MBDA MICA (Missile d’interception et de combat aérien, “Interception and Aerial Combat Missile”) is an anti-air multi-target, all weather, fire-and-forget short and medium-range missile system. It is intended for use both by air platforms as individual missiles as well as ground units and ships, which can be equipped with the rapid fire MICA Vertical Launch System. It is fitted with a thrust vector control (TVC) system.
It was developed from 1982 onward by Matra. The first trials occurred in 1991, and the missile was commissioned in 1996 to equip the Rafale and Mirage 2000. It is a replacement for both Super 530 (interception) and Magic II (dogfight). Two can be fired in a two-second interval.
Contents
There are two MICA variants; MICA RF has an active radar homing seeker and MICA IR has an imaging infra-red homing seeker. Both seekers are designed to filter out counter-measures such as chaff and decoy flares. A thrust vector control unit fitted to the rocket motor increases the missile's agility. It is capable of lock-on after launch (LOAL) which means it is capable of engaging targets outside its seeker's acquisition range.
MICA can also be employed as a short-range surface-to-air missile as the VL MICA SHORAD; in this form it is fired from a truck-mounted box launcher. On October 23, 2008, 15:30, at CELM, Biscarosse (Landes), a VL MICA missile successfully performed the last of its 14 test firings meaning it is now ready for mass production. The RPV was flying at low level, on the sea, 12 km away; despite this distance (roughly twice the range of Sea Wolf), MICA (with an active radar seeker) locked on the target and shot it down. Corvettes too small to have the costly Aster missile systems will be the best customer for this weapon, that basically is an Aster without its booster and PIF-PAF vectorial control(as example, the diameter and radar are roughly the same in both Mica and Aster).[2]
The Armée de l'Air received its first MICA batch in the 1990s with its 37 Mirage 2000-5. The French Air Force and Navy have ordered a total of 1110 MICAs, divided equally between RF and IR versions; 1000 missiles had been delivered by November 2010. MICA is also offered for export, the first sale was made to Taiwan in 1992 when the Republic of China Air Force (ROCAF) ordered some 960 missiles in both RF and IR versions to arm its new Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft.[3]
